What can you do with six minutes? You could boil an egg to perfection or, if you’re in shape, you could run a mile, but really, one can’t achieve all that much in that short of a span. Yet, when you get the infamous electrobreakbeat duo of R-Kidz and Noize, together known as Lawgiverz, you can venture to the outskirts of space and time from the comfort of your beanbag chair and make it back for tea.
A collaboration with R-Kidz’s brother Antidwarf, “Growla” delivers on its name, a snarling, intimidatingly intelligent breakbeat track. Although it’s been years since the last Lawgiverz release, this track picks things up right where they left off. “Growla” sees their expansive sound thriving, with its deep, sub-bass moans, sci-fi samples and leads, neck-snapping percussion, and unusual offbeat sequencing tricks all present and counted. It’s as if they never took any time off! And, given how time passes when listening to their material, it’s possible they didn’t, that they teleported here from 2008, briefly stopping by 2525 to pick up some inspiration along the way.
